NavVis will be exhibiting its latest products at FM Expo in Dubai next September. We spoke to the Business Development Manager, Alaa Alajati; here's what he told us as he prepares to participate at the largest dedicated platform for Facilities Management in the Middle East.

 

How successful is the uptake of technology based tools in the Middle East FM market right now?

The FM market in the Middle East is developing and the adoption of new technologies is also growing. We started to see uptake of technology based tools with some forward-thinking players who aim to differentiate their offering in this competitive market. The challenge still remains  the long-term vision of investment and the proper implementation of the right technology.

 If you were to pitch technology based tools to FM professionals, how would you sell it?

Companies often lack transparency over the real estate that they own, manage or use. This contributes to the already massive cost burden associated with a building’s operations and maintenance. Big corporate real estate owners as well as leading facility management providers are using NavVis technology to gather and visualize detailed, as-is building information along the whole lifecycle. This ensures that construction, relocation or tendering of projects runs smoothly, handover transactions are well-documented and employees and technicians have routing information that efficiently takes them from point A to B in even the most complex indoor spaces.

 What are the top 3 tech trends in the Tech FM industry according to you?

1. Technology integration and IoT in smart buildings/cities.
2. Increased awareness and use of advanced 3D scanning/reality capture technologies.
3. Wider use and acceptance of BIM / CAFM in the region in parallel to government’s push on BIM for large projects

 What do these mean for your company?

NavVis makes capturing the data needed to create and update BIM much more efficient; this in return improves the way building information is stored and managed with computer aided facilities management (CAFM) systems. With NavVis technology, CAFM stakeholders are now able to get buildings scanned much faster and visualize building information of existing structures at a much lower cost than ever before.

 What products will you present at FM EXPO?

We will present our innovative indoor mapping system of both hardware and software. We shall showcase our mapping equipment that captures reality in an unprecedented speed; further we will present our browser-based viewer along with integrations and plugins from our leading CAFM provider partners.

 Why is there demand for them in the Dubai/Middle East?

Dubai/Middle East is a fast-growing market that is embracing technology at a fast pace; we see great support of UAE government towards new technologies. In parallel we see an increase in the number of upcoming construction projects and a return of mega projects in the region such as expo 2020. All this brings further opportunities to NavVis as its technology makes it easy to use and share building information models.

 How will the exhibition help you to grow business in the UAE?

By participation we aim to showcase our tech and solutions. We are looking to connect with major players in the FM industry and collaborate with system integrators as well as win prestigious projects with key clients.
